Mike Waldron is an expressionist artist and mark-maker based in Bollington. Conveniently between the urban buzz of Manchester, the city in which he was born, and the wilds of the Peak District, which provide the inspirations behind his work.
His practice is rooted in storytelling, with many of his works, including those veering towards the abstract, weaving a narrative, or hinting at some hidden drama. He is fascinated by the relationship between people, the landscape and the ever-changing urban environment. Having trained at Liverpool Poly in the 80s, he now works as a professional artist, seduced by colour; and ranging across a diversity of media, techniques, platforms and subjects, he steadfastly refuses to accept the artificial distinctions between abstract and concrete.
Mike’s work is held in collections internationally. He has exhibited recently with Blue and Berry Gallery, The Gallery Next Door, inch Arts Gallery, Smith Gallery Brighouse, The Neighbourhood Gallery.
He was recently awarded First Prize in the Inch Arts Winter Open Exhibition, for his piece. « Rise Like Lions After Slumber»
